The Microsoft CPA: what it means and how I work

Tired of Accounting Headaches? Meet Your Microsoft 365 CPA!

Ever feel like your accounting system is fighting against you, not for you? At Atkins CPA LLC, I get it. I’m here to transform your bookkeeping, accounting, and advisory experience by leveraging the power of Microsoft 365 – making accounting feel not just easier, but calmer. Say goodbye to messy books and stressful month-ends, and hello to clean data, faster reconciliations, and a serene close.

Think of me as your “Microsoft CPA” – but what does that really mean for you?

My entire career has been spent immersed in the Microsoft ecosystem, mastering how each piece fits together. You likely already know the big three: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. But the true magic happens when we unlock the potential of the other apps already included in your license:

  • SharePoint: Your central hub for seamless team file management.
  • Power Query: Transform messy data into useful tables, effortlessly.
  • Power Automate: Automate repetitive tasks, from moving files to sending messages.
  • Power Apps: Create simple, custom tools for capturing and updating records on the go.
  • Advanced Excel (Macros/Office Scripts): Turn complex, repeated tasks into one-click wonders.

My mission is to help you elevate your Microsoft 365 usage, so you squeeze every drop of value from your subscription. We’ll slash busy work, standardize processes, and dramatically reduce errors by automating the tedious parts of your business. The result? Cleaner inputs, lightning-fast reconciliations, and a month-end that feels, dare I say, peaceful.

How I Pick the Perfect Tool for Your Needs

My approach to tool selection is refreshingly simple:

  • Personal work in progress? OneDrive is your go-to.
  • Shared files or data that needs to last? SharePoint is the answer.
  • Repetitive tasks involving files, lists, or messages? Power Automate steps in.
  • Data needing a good scrub before analysis? Power Query leads to powerful Excel reports. For widespread sharing and scalability, we’ll seamlessly transition to Power BI.
  • Need to capture or edit records on web or mobile? A small Power App gets the job done.
  • Still manually battling Excel? A simple macro button will be your new best friend.

My “Guardrails” – Your Peace of Mind

Rest assured, I build solutions responsibly and securely:

  • I stick to Microsoft 365 Business Standard and standard connectors, no hidden costs for premium features you don’t need.
  • Your business files live securely in team SharePoint, with permissions set before any automation begins.
  • I implement simple run logs for easy long-term support.
  • Copilot privacy is explained in plain language, and prompts are always free of sensitive client data.

Picture This: A Concrete Win for Your Business

Let’s visualize a common pain point: Vendor Bills.

Imagine this: Vendors email bills to your AP inbox. Outlook automatically forwards each message to your unique QuickBooks Online (QBO) email address, leveraging QBO’s AP features to create the bill and attach the receipt. In the exact same flow, Power Automate swoops in to save a copy of the file to SharePoint, tagging it with the vendor and date, and placing it in the perfect library.

Your team now has a crystal-clear, searchable queue in SharePoint for quick reference and audit, all while the accounting is recorded efficiently in QBO. The result? Faster posting in QBO and a secondary, audit-ready record living securely in your tenant for any future questions.

Quick Answers to Your Burning Questions:

Q: Do I need expensive premium connectors?

A: Absolutely not! My priority is maximizing the tools you already own. While I’ll advise if another tool would truly benefit you, most often, we achieve your goals without adding to your tech stack.

Q: Is Power BI Pro a must-have?

A: It’s a separate add-on license, but not required to start. You can begin with powerful reporting in Excel and other built-in Microsoft tools. Add Power BI Pro later if you need to share reports through the Power BI service.

Q: Mac or Windows?

A: Both are welcome! I primarily work on Windows, so I have a deep familiarity, but I’m completely comfortable supporting users on Mac as well.
